The Outdoor Instructor Training program is designed to prepare you for direct entry into the industry. Developed through close collaboration with industry experts and aligned with the latest qualification standards, this course equips you to walk straight into exciting roles with top outdoor employers or work as an independent instructor.

What to Expect on the Day

Join us for a hands-on, interactive day designed to give you a true taste of the instructor life:

  • Surprise Practical Activities: Get involved in a variety of fun outdoor sessions run by our team throughout the day.

  • Course Overview & Q&A: Learn about the qualifications, logbook support, and career pathways available through the program.

  • Tour Your Future Home: Thinking about joining the full course? During lunch, take an exclusive tour of Meadowfields HQ—our beautifully located detached bungalow nestled in the Devon hills. Check out your accommodation, including the outdoor swimming pool in the garden and access to a wood-fired sauna and cold plunge next door!

  • Complimentary Lunch & Refreshments: Lunch, tea, and coffee are provided. Please let us know of any dietary requirements when booking.

Mountain Training & Climbing

  • Summer Mountain Leader (Training & Assessment)

  • Rock Climbing Instructor (Training & Assessment)

  • Climbing Wall Instructor + Abseil Module (Training & Assessment)

  • BMC Coaching: Fundamentals of Climbing 1

  • Climbing Wall Development Instructor (CWDI) option available for qualified candidates

British Canoeing Awards

  • White Water Personal Awards (Kayak or Canoe)

  • Paddlesport Instructor

  • Paddlesport Safety and Rescue

  • Kayak & Canoe: Start, Discover, Explore

Additional Qualifications & Support

  • 16-Hour Outdoor First Aid

  • DofE Assessor (All levels) & DofE Gold Award (for participants under 25)

  • Mountain Bike Instructor Award (Levels 1 & 2)

  • Sports Coach UK Safeguarding & Enhanced DBS Check

  • Food Hygiene Level 2

  • In-House Certifications: Bushcraft, Zipwire, Archery, Team Games, Tree Climbing, and Axe Throwing

  • Logbook Experience: Quality Mountain Days (QMDs) counting towards your International Mountain Leader progression

⚠️ Gear Up For Free: All specialist watersports gear (wetsuits, buoyancy aids, paddles) and range equipment are provided 100% free during your training.

What to Bring to the Open Day

  • Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing (activities will take place predominantly outside)

  • A change of warm clothes for the afternoon

  • Swimwear and a towel (if you'd like to try out the cold plunge/pool!)

  • A refillable water bottle
